My cheap bus ticket from Berlin to Prague turned into a 12 hour nightmare
I saved 15 euros by picking the sketchiest bus company I could find online. We broke down twice, the driver got lost near Dresden, and they ran out of water. I got in at 3am instead of 7pm. What's the worst bus or train ride you've ever taken to save a few bucks?

My Budapest to Vienna trip took 9 hours once because of a blown tire and a driver who didn't speak English or German. I learned my lesson and now I always pack a full liter of water and a power bank in my carry-on, no exceptions. It doesn't fix the breakdowns, but it keeps you from getting totally stranded. That little bit of control makes the whole thing less miserable.

They ran out of water? How does that even happen on a bus trip? That's just basic. I'd be so mad. I can handle a breakdown, but being thirsty for hours is a whole other level of bad.

Right there with you @alice_palmer20. It's pure bad planning, like they didn't count heads before leaving. A breakdown is bad luck, but no water is just neglect. You're stuck there with a dry throat for hours, it's brutal.
