Just dodged a huge extra fee at the airport in Lisbon

I almost got hit with a 50 euro baggage fee because my carry-on was 1 kilo over the limit. The airline's website said it was fine, but the agent at the gate had a different scale. I quickly took out my heaviest jacket and my hiking boots and put them on over my clothes. Looked silly, but it brought the bag down to the right weight and saved me the cash. Has anyone else found a good last-minute trick like this when your bag is overweight?

Your runway moment beats @kim_west's fashion shows any day, that's a brilliant save!

That's a classic move, wearing the heavy stuff. Did you check if the airline's website weight limit was for the bag itself or included your personal item too? Sometimes they combine them at the gate, which is how they catch people.

My friend got caught exactly like that last month. She had her carry-on right at the limit and a stuffed purse, and the agent made her put both on the scale together at the gate. She had to do the whole awkward shuffle, putting on three jackets like some kind of @kim_west runway disaster. It was a budget airline, and they would not let it slide. She ended up having to pay a fee because her combined stuff was over. It's such a sneaky way for them to get more money from you, you know? Always feels like they change the rules when you're already trapped.

The airport floor show is my favorite part of travel.
