Depends on the airline, obviously. But which one are you even looking at? Some of the budget ones will absolutely gut you for it, especially if you didn't add it when you booked. You gotta check their website directly, the fine print is where they get you.

Ugh, it's honestly criminal. I got stung for 75 bucks at the gate once because my bag was an inch too big. They absolutely wait until you have no other choice, it's such a scam. You really have to read every single line on their baggage page, they hide the real cost in the worst places.
