Hostel vs. Airbnb for a 10-day trip to Lisbon next month - which one actually saves more?
Last week I booked a dorm bed at a hostel for $28 a night but my friend argues Airbnb with a kitchen saves on food costs long term. Has anyone here crunched the numbers on a longer stay and seen which one wins out?

Your friend argues Airbnb with a kitchen saves on food costs long term" - that logic falls apart when you actually look at what you're paying for. A $28 hostel bed vs. an Airbnb that's probably $80-$100 a night even for a studio. That gap is huge. You'd have to eat like a king every single day to burn through that difference. I see this all the time with people overcomplicating simple math - they fixate on one tiny saving but ignore the big price tag upfront. The real pattern is people get tricked by the illusion of saving, like buying in bulk at Costco when you're gonna toss half of it. For a 10 day trip, hostel all the way unless you need total privacy for work or something.

Read somewhere that hostels also have kitchens now. Just sayin.
