Can we talk about people using their rewards points wrong for flights

I keep seeing folks in here bragging about booking flights with points but they are doing it in the worst way possible. Like last week a coworker told me she used 50,000 points on a $200 domestic ticket through her bank portal. That is literally throwing money away people. You gotta transfer those points to airline partners for the real deals. I learned this the hard way after burning 80,000 points on a hotel stay that would have cost $300 cash. For my trip to Chicago next month I am transferring my Chase points to United and getting a flight that normally goes for $600 for just 25,000 points. Has anyone else noticed how many people just book through the basic portal without checking transfer options first?

Is it really that serious though? People get excited about free travel and not everyone wants to learn the whole points game.

People skip learning everything these days and just want the easy win.
