Which generation gave you that terrible advice about paying your dues first?

My Millennial coworker told me to take a $30,000 entry level job in Seattle for experience, but I ended up drowning in rent while the Boomer boss bragged about buying his first house at 22 so who really messed up my financial plan here?

$30k in Seattle is basically a dare not a salary.

Yeah I read something similar. A local news site did a breakdown of minimum wage vs actual cost of living for Seattle and Tacoma. The number they threw out was closer to $50k just to survive without roommates. That $30k number is basically what you'd need for a studio in a sketchy area and nothing else. No car, no savings, no eating out. It's almost like companies think people can live on air and good intentions out here.
