Vent: My grandpa told me vinyl records sounded better and I laughed

Picked up a thrift store turntable for $20 last fall just for decoration, finally plugged it in. I've been listening to Spotify for 10 years and that old scratched copy of Rumours genuinely sounded warmer and fuller through those speakers. Does anyone else have a tech thing they were wrong about way too long?

Oh man, same thing happened to me with a dusty copy of Fleetwood Mac I found at a garage sale. I thought it was just old people nostalgia but that analog sound hits different through actual speakers. Now I'm hunting for a decent turntable that won't break the bank but still gives me that warmth without the scratchy parts.

I used to be one of those people who thought vinyl was just hipster pretension, like overpriced coffee or vintage t-shirts. Then my buddy brought over a copy of Rumours he'd found at his dad's place and played it on this beat-up old turntable he got from a thrift store. The whole way it fills the room, the way the bass sits in the air, it made me feel like I was hearing the songs for the first time. I still can't explain the technical stuff about compression or whatever, but the experience is just warmer and more alive than a digital file. It totally flipped my perspective, now I get why people get into the hunt for the right setup.
