Spent $600 on a standing desk and now my back hurts worse
Bought one of those fancy electric standing desks back in March because everyone my age swore sitting was killing us. I'm 32, Gen Z, and wanted to avoid becoming a hunchback like my dad. After standing for 8 hours a day for two weeks, my knees started aching and I developed this weird pain in my left hip. Now I'm back to sitting on a $50 office chair from a garage sale and I feel fine. Has anyone else gotten burned by all the ergonomic hype?

Wait, you stood for EIGHT HOURS straight? That's crazy, no wonder your body freaked out! I've seen some people say standing desks are dangerous if you don't ease into it. My wife bought one a few months ago and her physical therapist told her to start with 20 minutes standing, then sit for 40, and repeat. She's been doing that for a while now and her back pain actually got a lot better. Maybe the hype isn't totally wrong, but the way people sell it like you can just stand all day is dumb.

Yeah I got a standing desk during the pandemic and it just sits at max height collecting dust now. The whole thing is way oversold, your body is built to move around, not lock into one position all day either standing or sitting. People act like standing is some miracle cure but it's just trading one problem for another.
