Serious question, when did Gen X decide 65 was the magic 'sorry we broke it' number?
I was at my parents' place in Phoenix over the weekend helping them clean out the garage and I found a newspaper from 1994. The headline was about some budget thing and the article quoted a guy saying the debt would be handled 'by the time the boomers hit 65.' And my dad, who is 67 now, just laughed and said nobody actually fixed anything, they just moved the number. That was 30 years ago. Thirty years of people saying the fix is coming right around the corner, and here we are, same corner, same mess. My mom is Gen X and she still swears it was the boomers, but she voted for every one of those guys too. So which group actually sat on the problem the longest? I honestly can't tell anymore, and I want to hear what you all think.
