PSA: My parents' generation didn't have to deal with this housing garbage

I was looking at my grandpa's old pay stubs from 1975. He was a factory worker in Detroit making around $12,000 a year. The house he bought in '72 cost him $18,000. Fast forward to today, that same house is going for $180,000 and factory jobs here barely pay $35k. How is anyone supposed to get a start when everything costs 10 times more but wages barely tripled? Anyone else done the math on their own town and feel like they got handed a losing hand?

I mean, the wages thing isn't quite right though. $35k actually IS about 3 times more than $12k if you adjust for inflation, just still doesn't come close to housing going up 10x.
