My Boomer mom's checkbook habit made me see the generational gap clearly

I used to get so annoyed watching my mom balance her checkbook every Sunday, like that was still a thing. Then last month my bank app went down for 3 days and I had no idea what I had spent. I called her and she recited my rent, my car payment, and how much I gave my nephew for his birthday in June, all from that little register. She has never missed a payment because she writes everything down right away. I started a simple spreadsheet after that, not the fancy budgeting app I paid for for a year. It shook me how much I rely on stuff that can just disappear. Has anyone else had a moment where the old way actually beat your modern one?
