My Boomer dad's flip phone habit just cost us the family group chat

It was my turn to bring snacks to trivia night, and I grabbed this 'premium' trail mix from the bulk bin at my local co-op. Didn't check the label, just assumed it had the classic stuff. Get to the bar, pour a bowl, and it's mostly dried cranberries and sunflower seeds with like four peanuts total. My whole team gave me grief for bringing 'bird food' and we lost the round by 15 points because I was too busy picking through the bowl. Cost me $11 for the privilege too. I mean, I know labels matter, but who actually reads every ingredient for trail mix? Has anyone else been burned by fancy packaging that looked way better than the actual contents?

The bulk bin thing gets me every time too. My local co-op labels everything with those tiny handwritten tags that always fall off or get smeared, so you're basically gambling on what's in the scoop. But here's the thing nobody talks about, those expensive trail mixes are designed to look premium with the shiny cranberries and big sunflower seeds, that's the trick. The cheap stuff is mostly peanuts and M&Ms because those are actually filling and taste good. You paid for the illusion of health food, not for actual snack value. Next time just grab the generic bag from the regular aisle, it'll have way more substance for half the price.

Have you ever actually weighed those bulk bins versus the bagged stuff? I feel like half the price is just for the thrill of scooping loose granola, not the quality.
