Took my truck to the same place for 6 years. Every time, $480 for front pads and rotors, and one time they charged me $85 just to "inspect" it. Did it myself in my driveway on Saturday with a $60 set of pads and rotors from the parts place on 5th. Two hours, one stuck caliper bolt, done.
Here's the thing that bugs me. My dad's whole street used to do this stuff on weekends. Nobody paid a shop for brakes. Somewhere between then and now my generation just handed it all over and called it convenience. We pay 4x for stuff and act like it's normal.
Not saying dealers are evil. But 60 vs 480 is a real number and I had the tools all along.
Anyone else feel like we traded knowing how to fix our own stuff for nothing?
