Gen X told me to stop paying for music software at 34 and the free version was fine all along
I spent $600 on DAW upgrades over 5 years because a Gen X producer kept saying free stuff was junk, then I tried the built-in plugins on my laptop for a whole album and only 2 people out of 40 even noticed a difference in the mix, so are we all just buying things to feel like adults or what?

Read a study once that listeners can't tell the difference blind anyway.
