Changed my mind about tipping food delivery drivers after my fridge broke down last summer

My fridge died in July during that heatwave in Nashville, and I needed ice and groceries fast but my car was in the shop. The DoorDash driver waited 20 minutes while I dug out cash and even helped me carry bags up three flights of stairs. So when people say gig workers don't deserve a 20 percent tip, have you ever needed someone to go above and beyond for you like that?

Flip it around completely and look at who actually benefits from the tip culture debate. The companies like DoorDash and UberEats love it when customers and drivers argue about tips because it takes the heat off them paying fair wages. If everyone stopped tipping tomorrow, those companies would just pocket the difference and drivers would quit, but they know the guilt tripping works. The real hustle is that tipping lets these billion dollar companies off the hook for paying a living wage. So every time someone posts about how tips are getting out of hand, I just think about how that argument is exactly what the CEOs want us to be fighting about instead of demanding they pay up.
