Vent: sped up my taper fade with a $9 trimmer guard trick, now two guys at the shop won't shut up about it
Had a walk-in rush on Saturday, 7 heads in 3 hours, and my clipper-over-comb was eating all my time. So I flipped a worn #1 guard upside down under my adjustable blade to get a half-step shorter without swapping guards. Cut my fade time from about 12 minutes down to 7, and the blend line came out cleaner than my old method. One barber here says that's lazy and I'm just masking bad sectioning, the other says whatever gets the client out happy is fair game. Is leaning on guard tricks to shave minutes cheating the craft, or just working smarter during a rush?
Seven heads in three hours and they're worried about your guard being upside down? Bet those two guys also time their lunch breaks to the second while you're the one actually getting paid.
Work smarter every time. If the client walks out happy and you're not wrecking anyone's hair, the "craft" police can take it up with your tip jar.
