Took me a whole morning to figure out a client's cowlick pattern

Had a guy come in yesterday with hair that just wouldn't lay right on one side... spent over an hour mapping the growth direction before I got the cut to work. Anyone else have a tough time with stubborn crown swirls?

Yeah mapping the growth is key. I found cutting it a bit longer while it's dry helps it fall into place.

But does dry cutting let you see the true shape? Ive tried it both ways and dry always leaves me with uneven spots when it settles with moisture. Wet trimming at least shows me where the hair actually lands after a shower.

Actually I always cut mine damp. The guide hairs lay flatter so you get a more accurate trim.
