Threw away $150 on a clipper blade sharpening kit that ruined two blades

Bought this fancy sharpening stone and jig set from a supplier online, watched a few tutorials, and went to town on my favorite Wahl blade. Ended up with a blade that chatters and one that won't cut at all after trying to correct the angle. Has anyone else had better luck with a specific sharpening service or am I just bad at it?

Yeah man, I did the exact same thing with a Wahl blade and one of those fancy jig kits... spent like two hours messing with the angle and by the time I was done the blade was so thin it chattered like crazy. Sent it to a pro and they basically said the steel was too ground down to fix properly. I swear those kits make you think it's easy but they just assume you already know all the fine motor stuff... I had better luck just buying new blades on sale than trying to fix anything again. These kits are a money pit if you're not already good at sharpening stuff.

Yeah "went to town on my favorite Wahl blade" that hit too close to home. I did the exact same thing with a set of Andis blades and a stone from a random Amazon listing. First blade I tried to fix ended up with a burr so bad it was basically tearing hair out instead of cutting it. Second one I got the angle way off and now it just skips over hair like a bad razor. I sent them to a proper sharpening place after that and they came back good as new but that was another $40 I didn't want to spend. Honestly those kits are a total scam for anyone who doesn't already sharpen knives for a living.

Whoa wait, you're telling me you sharpened the blades yourself and it cost you $40 more on top of the ruined ones just to get them fixed? That's brutal. I feel like those kits are a trap for anyone who doesn't already do this stuff for a living. I bet the sharpening place probably just used a machine and did it in five minutes too. Makes me think the whole DIY thing was doomed from the start.
