That stat about barber licensing rates shocked me

I was reading through some industry data last night and found out that only about 60% of barbers actually hold a valid license in my state, Texas. Found it on the state board website while looking up renewal fees. Made me wonder how many shops are running people through without proper training. Has anyone else checked their state's numbers?

Actually checked Texas board data myself last year, turns out the 60% figure includes barber shops, salons, and cosmetology places all mixed together, not just barbers. So the real number for actual barber shops might be higher or lower depending on how they split it up. Worth digging into the raw data sheets rather than the summary page if you want the straight stats.

That 60% number is honestly TERRIFYING to me. I live in Ohio and I just checked our state board site and it said something similar around 64% - I had NO idea it was that low. Makes me wonder how many people are getting bad cuts or infections from unlicensed barbers.

would it really matter @zara572 if barbers are cutting hair good and nobody's getting sick though
