I was dead set against using thinning shears on most cuts for 12 years

Then I watched a barber in Chicago do a whole fade with just them and a comb, no clipper guards, last month. Has anyone else had a tool they hated suddenly click after seeing it used the right way?

Hold up, I gotta say I'm not really buying this one. I mean, a whole fade with just thinning shears and a comb? That sounds like some kind of magic trick or the barber was just showing off for Instagram. Thinning shears are good for blending and taking out bulk, but for a clean fade you need those sharp lines and zero gaps. I've seen guys try to skip clippers and it always ends up looking messy with weird patches. Maybe it worked for that one guy in Chicago, but that doesn't mean it's a game changer for the rest of us. I'd need to see it in person before I start tossing my clippers in the trash.
