Hot take: I used to think clipper guards over #4 were pointless until I did a fade on a guy with 3 inches of thick curly hair and actually had to use the #6 to blend
Spent 6 years in the chair barely touching anything above a 4 guard until a client in Portland asked for a high and tight that needed that whole range, and watching the blend come together finally made me admit I was being lazy about my approach.

The real eye-opener for me was watching the other guys in the shop who strictly did skin fades side eye me like I was some kind of wizard for using a 7. Scissor-only barbers get all the credit for precision, but that high guard range is where you actually prove if you can handle texture without destroying someone's curl pattern in one pass.

Wait wait wait... you said you "spent 6 years in the chair barely touching anything above a 4 guard"? That is wild to me. I mean I get it if you're doing the same buzz cuts day in and day out but 6 years is a long time to not even try those higher guards. And then you finally did a high and tight with a #6 and watched it blend and realized you were being lazy? That's pretty honest of you to admit but man that must have felt like a whole new world opening up. I bet that one client in Portland changed your whole approach to cuts forever.
