Had to choose between a $30 clipper and a $200 one for my first kit
I was dead broke starting out last year and literally stood in the aisle at Sally Beauty holding a Wahl detailer and a Magic Clip. Went with the cheap one because rent was due and honestly, it burned out on my 4th client (a guy with thick hair named Marcus). Has anyone else gambled on budget gear and immediately regretted it?

My buddy Chris bought a $25 trimmer from a gas station and it died mid-buzz on his uncle's head, left this weird bald patch right on top. He had to finish with scissors and now people joke about his "uncle's landing strip.

Is it really the clippers' fault though? I mean, yeah, a $25 gas station trimmer is basically a toy (or a disaster waiting to happen). But you gotta look at it different. I've seen people ruin haircuts with professional gear too, you know? @jenny_coleman, not trying to call you out, but cheap tools can work fine if you know what you're doing. The real problem is the person holding it, not the price tag. A bad barber can mess up with any clipper, just like a good one can make a $25 plastic thing look decent. It's about skill and common sense, not how much you spent.

Marcus was the exact reason I used to buy cheap clippers, but that changed real quick.
