Guy in the chair next to me at a shop in Phoenix lost half an ear, tool guard was on the floor
I was working a chair at a shop in Phoenix last month when the barber two spots down caught a guy's ear with an unguarded trimmer and had to send him to urgent care for 6 stitches. The guard had been sitting on his station shelf for 3 days because he said it slowed him down on fades, and the shop owner let it slide until that happened. Do your shops actually enforce keeping guards on the clippers, or is it every man for himself until somebody gets hurt?
How is that guy doing now, did he heal up okay? That is rough, I feel for the guy who got hurt and honestly for the barber too, even if he messed up. Three days with the guard just sitting on the shelf is wild though, and the owner letting it slide is the real problem there. I have seen this before where a shop gets busy and safety stuff becomes a suggestion instead of a rule. My spot is pretty strict about it, the owner does walk arounds and will hand you the guard if he sees it off, but I know a lot of places are every man for himself. Hope your shop made some kind of change after that, because it should not take six stitches for people to care.
