Bought a $200 cordless clipper that died in 3 months

Picked up a Gamma+ X-Ergo last fall to replace my old corded Wahl. Worked great for about 90 days then the battery just stopped holding a charge. Took it apart and the battery pack is some weird proprietary shape I can't swap. Anyone else had a cordless clipper die on them fast? Looking for something reliable that lasts more than a season.

Man, that "battery just stopped holding a charge" part hit hard. I had almost the exact same thing happen with a cordless clipper I picked up from a different brand a couple years back. It was working fine, then one day it just died mid haircut and never came back to life. Your mileage may vary, but in my experience, a lot of these companies use those glued-in, non standard battery packs on purpose so you can't fix them yourself. It's a bummer because $200 is still a decent chunk of change for something that only lasts one season. I've honestly gone back to using a corded clipper for most of my home cuts since then, just because I got tired of throwing money at batteries that crap out. Take this with a grain of salt, but I'd say look for something that has a removable battery or a good warranty if you try cordless again.

Wait @tyler_wilson brings up a good point about those glued in packs, I had a trimmer where the battery just swelled up inside and I had to basically crack the shell open to get it out. idk why they make it so hard to swap batteries when it's literally the part that fails first. Maybe it's just me but I'm starting to think companies design stuff to be disposable on purpose.

Honestly wonder if they're banking on people not knowing about right to repair laws.
