Vent: My uncle swore I should always double text after a first date. That advice cost me 3 girls in a row.
He said it back when I was 19 and living in Boise, something about showing you're "serious and not playing games." So I did it, every single time, and every single one ghosted me within a week. Finally a friend asked to see my messages and just stared at me for a solid ten seconds. Was anyone else raised on advice that was already dead before they got it?
That "serious and not playing games" line is exactly what my older cousin told me too, word for word basically. So I did the double text thing for like a year and got nothing but silence, one girl even left me on read twice which is honestly impressive. The thing nobody tells you is that if someone actually likes you, one text is plenty, and if they don't, three texts just looks desperate. I wasted so much time wondering what I did wrong when really I was just following crappy advice from a guy who got married in 1998.
