Update: I used to think decluttering advice was just for rich people with too much stuff
I ran a moving company in Phoenix for 12 years and always rolled my eyes at those 'minimalist' posts online. Last month I helped a lady move from a 3 bedroom house into a 1 bedroom apartment after her divorce. She had 47 boxes of kitchen stuff alone and paid $600 extra in moving fees because of it. Watching her sort through it all and realize she had 14 coffee mugs she never used finally made me get it. I started going through my own garage last weekend and found 18 boxes I packed 5 years ago and never opened. Has anyone else had that moment where a customer's situation made you change your own habits?

Maybe it's just me but that 14 coffee mugs thing hit a little too close to home. I don't even drink coffee and I think I have like 8 mugs in my cabinet right now. Seriously though, moving companies should come with a free therapy session for people who think they might need every single jar lid they own. Sounds like you got paid to watch someone else's life lesson play out in real time. Hope you at least charged her by the pound for that closet of regrets.
