Tried to sous vide a steak in Denver and my vacuum sealer died mid-bag

I was prepping dinner last Saturday. Got the water bath going at 130 degrees. Went to seal the bag with my cheap FoodSaver and it just stopped working. Meat was already in the bag with salt and pepper. Had to use the zipper lock method and pray it didn't leak. Anyone else have a kitchen gadget fail at the worst possible moment?

Gotta love Denver's altitude. The lower air pressure messes with vacuum sealers sometimes. That zipper bag probably leaked during the cook.

Wait, hold up. You're telling me the altitude actually messes with vacuum sealers? I never would have guessed that in a million years. People always talk about recipes changing up there but not the gear you use to cook. That's wild to think about, especially for something as simple as a zipper bag. @patricia317 you called it right about the air, I guess there's more to it. It makes sense now why some folks online swear by different methods for cooking in the mountains. I always just thought it was a humidity thing.

Makes sense, Denver air is no joke.
