Showerthought: picking a smart thermostat over a manual one was a mistake

I had to choose between a $30 manual thermostat and a $150 smart one for my apartment in Austin last month. I went with the smart one thinking it'd save money but it keeps changing temps on its own when I'm not home. Has anyone else dealt with a smart thermostat that just fights you instead of helping?

My friend just told me the same thing about her fridge trying to "learn" her habits and just getting it wrong. It's like all this smart stuff is made by people who don't actually live in real houses. My coffee maker has a schedule I can't even figure out how to change so it just brews at 3am every day for no reason. Maybe the old way of just turning a knob yourself wasn't that bad after all.

Man, that's rough. My smart thermostat is basically a frenemy at this point.
