Watched the new RoboCop remake and almost walked out 20 minutes in

I finally sat down to watch the 2014 RoboCop remake last night after avoiding it for years. My buddy kept saying it wasn't THAT bad, so I gave it a shot. But man, the whole thing felt like a generic action movie with the RoboCop name slapped on it. They completely stripped out the dark humor and social commentary that made the original special. By the time they had the new suit looking all sleek and silver, I was just annoyed. Has anyone actually found a remake that improved on the original, or are they all this disappointing?

the whole thing felt like a generic action movie" - see, I actually kinda liked that about it. The original is a classic but it's also super dated in its pacing and tone. The remake knew it couldn't copy that so it went for a tighter, more modern action flick and honestly I think it works on its own terms. The stuff about drones and the media manipulation actually feels pretty relevant now too. Not saying it's better than the original, just that it's a different beast and I had a good time with it.

read an article that said the director wanted to show how fast news cycles warp everything now. definitely comes through in that scene with the fake footage.
