Vent: The RoboCop remake from 2014 was totally pointless
I sat through it last night and it's just a worse version of the original with more explosions and zero heart. Why did they even bother remaking something that already nailed the satire and action perfectly?

That original RoboCop had a real soul, not just a shiny metal suit.

The original had this quiet, cynical soul that made you feel the weight of everything, you know? The 2014 version is all flashy CGI and loud noises, like a kid who got a new toy and forgot the old one was better. It makes me think about how so many things now get remade just because someone can, not because they should. Even the way we shop for groceries has turned into this slick, impersonal thing with all those self-checkout kiosks (don't get me started on those). We keep trading character and simplicity for more buttons and buzzers, and it's just exhausting. Sometimes a classic is a classic for a reason.

Ask if part of the reason the original worked was because it didn't try so hard. The 2014 version screams "look at me" with every explosion and chrome-plated reboot, but the original just let the quiet moments sit there, like Murphy staring at his own reflection. Did that movie even have a single scene where nobody was yelling or getting shot at? Compare that to the self-checkout thing - it strips out the human interaction but adds beeps and error messages you have to wave down a teenager to fix. What's the point of shiny new stuff if it loses the thing that made you feel anything in the first place?
