The 2020 remake of 'The Witches' still haunts my movie nights

Last Halloween I rewatched that Anne Hathaway version and my cousin walked out after 20 minutes, she said it felt like a kids cartoon that forgot it was scary. Why did they even remake the 1990 one when the puppet effects were already perfect, has anyone else found a worse remake that completely missed the original's vibe?
