The 2011 'The Thing' prequel remake was a total waste of potential
I finally watched the 2011 version of The Thing last night and I'm still mad about it lol. The original 1982 movie is one of my all time favorites so I had low expectations but dang. They spent all this money on practical effects and then covered them up with terrible CGI because test audiences thought the puppets looked fake. What was the point of remaking it if you're gonna ruin the one thing people loved about the first movie? Has anyone else felt let down by a remake that had the right ingredients but just messed it up?

My buddy spent good money on the Blu-ray just for the practical effects documentary. Said the actual movie made him want to throw the remote through the TV.

Oh come on, it wasn't THAT bad. I mean sure the CGI was a disaster but I think people get way too worked up about remakes in general. @pat_schmidt60's buddy sounds like he needs to relax a bit. Like yeah the practical effects were a letdown but the movie itself was still a decent monster flick if you don't compare it to the original every five seconds. The thing that bugs me is how everyone acts like it personally offended them. It's a movie about a shape-shifting alien from space, not a documentary about the construction of the pyramids. I watched it again last year and honestly it's fine. Not great but fine.
