That 'The Wicker Man' remake still makes me angry 18 years later
I grew up watching the 1973 original on VHS at my uncle's house. When the 2006 remake came out with Nicolas Cage, I figured it couldn't be that bad. Took me 45 minutes to realize they stripped out all the slow burn creepy tension and replaced it with Cage screaming at bees. The whole thing felt like a cash grab that nobody asked for. Did the studio seriously think we wanted a version where the main character punches women in bee costumes? Has anyone here actually made it through the whole remake without turning it off?

I read Neil LaBute admitted he never even liked the original film.

See I gotta disagree with you here @grace_white. I think what he said was more about being honest about how he approached the remake rather than hating the original. He took a different angle with it and that's fine, remakes should try to do their own thing instead of just copying frame for frame. Plus the guy has written and directed some solid plays so I respect his creative choices even when they don't land perfect.
