Rant: Paid $18 at the theater to see that RoboCop remake and walked out mad

I mean, idk who asked for that 2014 version but it was a total cash grab. They turned a gritty sci fi classic into some PG-13 mess with no edge. Has anyone else felt burned paying full price for a remake that missed the whole point?

The 2014 Robocop actually had some really smart ideas that I think got overlooked. I remember the scene where they slowly take away his humanity piece by piece, and that moment where he realizes his wife was staged to reject him was genuinely heartbreaking. The movie felt more like a dark political thriller about corporate control and drone warfare than the original's over-the-top action. Samuel L Jackson's character was a hilarious satire of cable news blowing everything out of proportion. Plus the design of the ED-209s and that slick black suit were way more realistic than the clunky 80s version. I get not liking it, but I thought it took the core concept in a smart new direction instead of just copying the old one.

The ED-209s looked like overdesigned Roombas with guns, not intimidating war machines. And that sleek suit? Looked like he was about to model for a sci-fi cologne ad or something. @danielw88 you're giving this movie way too much credit man. The original was over the top because it was supposed to be. That satire was loud and obvious, not hidden behind Sam Jackson yelling on a fake news show. The wife scene was brutal I guess, but the whole movie felt like it was trying so hard to be taken seriously. Sometimes a dumb action movie about a cop robot is just fine without the political essay attached.
