My nephew asked me why they remade 'The Witches' in 2020 when the 1990 version was already perfect.

He said, 'If the old one isn't broken, why spend $50 million just to break it?', and I realized he was right about the whole pointless remake industry.

The 2020 version actually used the original book's darker ending.

Honestly, that line about spending money just to break it hits home. I see this everywhere now, not just with movies. They'll take something simple that works fine, like a coffee maker or a phone app, and add a bunch of useless features that just make it worse. It feels like they're just making new stuff to sell, not because anyone actually asked for it. The old version did the job, but they gotta keep the money moving somehow.

And here I was about to defend the remake because I heard it was closer to the book. Your nephew just gave me a full stop moment. I do that all the time, overthinking stuff while a kid just points out the obvious truth. I guess I'm the target audience for the pointless upgrade, the sucker who buys the coffee maker with the wifi.
