My buddy made me sit through the 2019 'Child's Play' remake and I walked out after 40 minutes

Read somewhere that the director basically admitted they wanted to make a high tech horror movie, not a Chucky movie. That explains so much. The whole thing felt like they just slapped the Child's Play name on a generic script about smart home gadgets going haywire. The original worked because it was grounded in that trashy 80s slasher vibe, not because it had a cool tech gimmick. It's like they missed the entire point of why people love Chucky in the first place. My buddy tried to defend it by saying it was "for a new generation" but that's just a weak excuse for making a bad movie.

21 minutes is the exact point where I checked my phone and realized I'd rather look at ceiling tiles. The original Chucky's one-liners actually landed because he was a tiny serial killer, not a glitchy Alexa with a knife.

Told my buddy to skip the remake and just rewatch the original instead. That 2019 version lost everything that made the first one creepy. The OG Chucky was a possessed doll with a dark sense of humor, not some glitchy smart toy gone wrong. I gave it a fair shot on streaming later and still couldn't sit through the whole thing. The whole vibe felt too polished and clean, like they forgot the grime that made the original feel dangerous.
