My brother said the new 'Point Break' was a pointless cash grab

He told me to save my money and just rewatch the 1991 original, so I skipped the theater and streamed the old one instead. I finally saw the remake on cable and wow, it was a soulless mess with zero of the original's charm. Has anyone else had a friend save them from a truly awful remake?

Yeah, that "miss the point completely" line is so true. I read a review once that said a lot of these remakes just copy the plot points but forget why anyone liked the characters in the first place. It's like they're checking boxes instead of making a real movie. Your brother did you a solid for sure.

Okay but is it really that deep? Like @nina_jenkins said it's a soulless mess, fine, but we just hit stop. It's a movie, not a life lesson. They make bad ones all the time, we watch something else. Getting that worked up over a box-checking remake feels like giving it way too much power.

Honestly, saving you from that soulless mess was a solid move by your brother. My friend did the same thing with the new Total Recall and I'm still grateful. Some remakes just miss the point completely.
