I skipped every remake for a decade, then my buddy put on the 2004 Dawn of the Dead and I sat there with my mouth open
So for a long time I had this rule. If a movie was a remake, I just wrote it off. No interest. I figured it was a cash grab and the original was fine and nothing needed to change. Then last Saturday my buddy Dave had a few of us over at his place in Akron and after a couple of drinks he throws on the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake. I groaned out loud, I actually did, but he said just watch 20 minutes. I ended up watching the whole thing and honestly I was kind of mad at myself. The opening with the little girl in the hallway got me, and the whole thing felt tight and mean and it never dragged. So now I'm stuck asking if I was wrong this whole time, or if that one movie is just a fluke and the other 95 percent of remakes still stink. Like was I right to write them off, or did I miss a pile of good ones by being stubborn? What remake actually won you over, and what remake made you swear them off for good?
