Hot take: I gave the 2019 'The Lion King' remake a second chance on a long flight
I was stuck on a plane from Chicago to Seattle with the worst in-flight options. Out of pure boredom, I put on the CGI version everyone hated. About forty minutes in, I muted it and played the 1994 soundtrack over the visuals. Suddenly, the emotion was back. The problem wasn't just the 'real' animals, it was the flat delivery without the original music's cues. Has anyone else tried a weird fix like this for a soulless remake?

Muting that CGI snooze fest and playing the real soundtrack is genius. You basically did the director's job for them on a cross country flight. I'm just picturing you sitting there with your headphones on, manually syncing up "Circle of Life" to those weirdly stiff lion close ups. The fact that it actually worked is the most damning review of that movie possible.

My buddy did something like this with a different movie last month. He got so fed up with the bland score during a car chase that he plugged in his own playlist. Said the scene went from boring to amazing with just some 80s rock. It totally lines up with what @michael_burns said about us fixing things ourselves. These studios spend all that money and miss the simple stuff that makes a scene work. Makes you wonder if they even test these movies with the sound off.

Makes you wonder what else we're just quietly fixing ourselves.
