Hot take: Did the 2016 "Ghostbusters" remake need to happen at all?

I'm still torn on this one. The original from 1984 was lightning in a bottle, and the 2016 version with Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy had some funny moments but only made $229 million worldwide, way below expectations for a $144 million budget. On one side, it gave us a fresh cast and a fun modern spin, but on the other, it felt like a cash grab that didn't capture the original's magic. What do you all think, did we need a remake of a classic that already stood fine on its own?

I remember my dad watching the original on a VHS tape with tracking lines so bad it looked like ghosts anyway.

Are we really acting like bad tracking lines make the movie unwatchable? VHS was just part of the charm back then, you'd spend half the time smacking the VCR to fix the picture. My uncle still watches his old tapes with snow and static and says it adds to the experience. Plus, half those original effects looked rough even on a clean screen, so the tracking lines just matched the vibe. Is it really that deep, or is this just nostalgia making everybody dramatic?

Nah, it was a bad call from the jump.
