Am I the only one who thinks the Psycho remake shot for shot was a total waste of everyone's time?
I sat down to watch the 1998 Psycho remake on a rainy Saturday and made it about 40 minutes in before I turned it off. Gus Van Sant copied Hitchcock frame for frame but switched it to color, and it just felt like watching a cover band play someone else's greatest hits with no new spin. Some folks say a shot for shot remake is a tribute and shows how much the director loves the original, while others say why bother if you add nothing new. I paid $2 at a yard sale for the DVD and honestly that was $2 too much. Was this remake ever needed, or is there an argument that shot for shot remakes actually help new fans find the classics?
