A film buddy told me my favorite 80s horror remake was 'unnecessary' and it stung
I was defending the 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street remake hard, saying it was decent. He just looked at me and said 'it only exists because studios are scared to try new ideas.' That hit me because he was right. After that I went back and watched the original again and realized the remake added nothing new except worse acting. Has anyone else had a friend totally flip your opinion on a remake?

That part about "studios are scared to try new ideas" really got me thinking. It's like how every streaming service now has a dozen spin-offs and reboots instead of taking a chance on something fresh. I notice the same pattern at the grocery store where they just keep putting out new flavors of the same chips instead of a totally new snack. Remakes feel like the movie version of that, just playing it safe because they know the name will sell tickets. So what do you think, is there any remake that actually deserved to be made?

Is it just me or does this whole remake trend feel like when every fast food place suddenly drops the same limited time item at once? It's like they all saw one thing work and decided to copy it instead of taking a risk on something new. That's the same energy as studios greenlighting another remake because the last one made bank, not because anyone actually had a fresh idea worth putting on screen.
