Was I just lucky, or does this new dryer actually fix the tangled sheet issue?
I spent 3 days last month chasing a dryer that kept stopping mid-cycle in a rental unit near Austin, only to find a tiny sock had packed into the lint filter housing and blocked the airflow sensor, so is it normal to assume the worst and replace the whole drum assembly first, or have you all checked that spot before calling it a lost cause?

Two years ago my Maytag was making this awful thumping noise and stopping after 10 minutes, and I was ready to drop 400 bucks on a new drum. My neighbor, who fixes appliances on the side, pulled out a baby sock wedged in the blower wheel, same kind of deal as yours. That little thing threw off the balance and tripped the sensor every single time. I had already called a repair guy and everything, felt like such a fool when it took him 5 minutes to find it. Now I check the lint housing and the blower area first before I even think about parts. So no, you were not just lucky, you just checked the spot most people skip.
