Picked OEM over generic control board for a Samsung fridge - big mistake

Had a Samsung RF28R7201SR fridge with a dead main board last month. Chose the OEM Samsung board at $310 instead of the $120 generic aftermarket one. Regretted it hard - the OEM board died again after 3 weeks, same error code. Customer had to wait another 5 days for warranty replacement through Samsung's slow shipping. Meanwhile my buddy used the generic one on the same model and it's been running fine for 2 months now. Anyone else had better luck with those cheap replacements than the official parts?

Had a similar experience with a Whirlpool washer board last year. I went with the generic after a repair guy told me Samsung OEM parts are hit or miss, and it's still working fine 8 months later. Saved about $150 and didn't have to deal with the warranty headache.

You know what, that's basically what ended up happening with my LG dryer board. The OEM was like $300 and I found a generic for $80. My buddy who does appliance repair on the side told me the same thing, that for certain brands the generics are actually made in the same factory just without the sticker. It's been almost a year now and no issues at all. Sometimes you just gotta trust the repair guys, they see this stuff every day. Plus with generic you don't have to deal with that whole Samsung warranty runaround where they want you to mail the part back first and wait two weeks.

So is that the same thing as those off-brand car parts where the only difference is the box? I had a buddy who ordered a generic control board for his Kenmore fridge and it arrived with the exact same model number scratched off. The thing ran perfect for like two years until he sold the house. Makes you wonder how much of that OEM markup is just paying for the logo and the fancy packaging, you know? Ever opened up both side by side to see if there's actually any difference inside?
