Old GE dryer vs new Samsung, the matching pair idea backfired

Back in April I replaced a 1998 GE dryer that had outlived three families in my rental duplex on Fletcher Street. The drum bearings were screaming but it still dried a load in 45 minutes flat. I went with a new Samsung because the tenant wanted matching units. Three service calls later, the moisture sensor reads wrong every other cycle and the lint filter pops out mid-run. My old standby never once gave me a false dry signal. I get that tech improves things, but for dryers I think brushed steel and a timer knob beat a digital panel any day. Has anyone else seen a big jump in callbacks after swapping out older units for the newer smart ones?

The lint filter pops out mid-run" is what got me. I used to be all about the new stuff, figured newer had to mean better. But honestly, your post has me rethinking that. My mom still has her old Whirlpool from the 90s and it just keeps going, no sensors, no panels, just a knob and a button. I've seen so many posts about people having issues with the fancy dryers constantly, and it's like the basic ones just do the job without all the drama. You're making me want to hold onto my old Kenmore for as long as I possibly can, even if it's not the prettiest thing in the laundry room.
