Found out my old multimeter was off by 4 ohms on a fridge compressor test

I was chasing a short on a Whirlpool fridge for 2 hours until I tested the meter against a known resistor and realized it was reading 4 ohms low the whole time.

Man I used to roll my eyes when guys said check your meter first. Thought it was just a waste of time. Then last summer I had a similar thing with my Fluke copy. It was off by 2 ohms on a capacitor test and I chased a bad run cap for like an hour. Finally tested it with a 5% resistor and realized the meter was lying to me. Now I always test my meter against a known good resistor before I start any fridge or compressor job. Saves so much headache. Even cheap meters drift more than people think.
