Factory parts only on installs, customer called me crazy, no regrets
Last month I had a job in Austin where the homeowner wanted me to put in a used control board from eBay to save $180. I told him I only install factory parts because I've seen too many aftermarket boards burn out compressors. He pushed back and said I was just padding the bill. I held my ground, he paid the $410 for the OEM part, and the unit ran fine. Two weeks later his neighbor called me for the same model, his cheap board from the same seller fried the fan motor. Has anyone else drawn this line and lost a customer over it, or am I just being stubborn?

Preach. Cheap parts always come back to bite someone, usually not the guy who saved the $180. You did the right thing, stubborn is sometimes just called having standards.
