Discovered a gas leak on a dryer call in Denver last Thursday

Was out fixing a noisy drum bearing when my nose caught something off. Checked the flex line with soapy water and found a tiny pinhole leak behind the connector. How often do you guys find gas issues on jobs that aren't about gas at all?

Honestly, I see it a little different. You say "a tiny pinhole leak" but that's still a gas leak, right? I mean, it's not like it was a big one but it was still there. I find stuff like that maybe once every couple months, and it's usually on older flex lines that got nicked during install. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I check for gas on every call no matter what I'm there for. Saves me getting a call back later if I missed something.

rubyschmidt said "it can be anywhere" and man that hits. My buddy was out fixing a garage door opener a few months ago and smelled gas when he walked in. Customer said it was probably the dryer. He checked it, nothing. Ended up being a pinched line under the floorboards by the water heater on the other side of the house. He told me he almost missed it because he was so focused on the door. So yeah, pinhole or not, you gotta sniff around everywhere.

Ngl, "it's still a gas leak" is exactly right, but it reminded me of this one time I was out on a dishwasher install and smelled something funky. Turned out the gas line to the stove next to it had a tiny crack from where someone had kicked it. Not even on the machine I was working on. You check for gas on every call, I get that, but sometimes you stumble onto stuff that's not even in the same room. I had a call about a water heater last year and found a gas leak on a line running to a furnace in the basement that wasn't even part of the job. So yeah, pinhole or not, it's still a gas leak and it can be anywhere.
