Replaced my whole dryer last year over what turned out to be a clogged vent hose, so I feel your pain. But that is not what the vent being clogged usually does. A clogged vent makes the dryer run hot and slow, it does not normally stop it from spinning or heating at all unless the safety switch kicks in. If it was really the vent, you probably had a thermal fuse blow too, which is a ten dollar part. Cleaning the vent fixed the airflow but the fuse is what got you running again, or you just got lucky jiggling wires. Check the fuse next time before you start shopping for a new machine.
