Cracked a Frigidaire evaporator coil by using a heat gun too fast

Had to replace the whole evaporator assembly, cost the customer $400 and two hours of my Saturday. Now I just use a steamer instead, but it still takes forever on heavy ice.

You seriously used a heat gun on a frozen coil?

A heat gun is way too much heat for a frozen coil. @zara572 you really just need a low temp hair dryer or let it thaw naturally. I had a tech try that once and it warped the plastic housing on my unit. The drip pan cracked too from the sudden temp change. Just set a space heater a few feet away and wait it out.
